Pinterest inspired plantings

A little of this, a little of that…

that’s what I was saying as I walked through my house picking up things to put dirt in.  I saw some wonderful succulent container ideas on Pinterest last week, one container in particular caught my eye because I had the same container in my stash.  Mine is a little different in that it’s old with chippy paint and some sweet rust patina.

and here is mine…

I’ve had this old flour sifter for years.  I can’t even remember where I picked it up.  I’ve used it in several vignettes and even put it on my Christmas tree last year.

Before I began filling my flour sifter with dirt and plants, I wanted to add one other little tip I learned last week on Pinterest; using coffee filters in the bottom of your pots to help keep the dirt in while still allowing the water to drain. You can see how this would be beneficial in this case.

I empty out coffee grounds each morning, I had a used one ready to go this morning.  I just placed it in the bottom and filled with dirt.

Then I placed a few succulents inside and…viola!  she’s a done!

Can you see my “Chocolate Soldier” plant upper left?  I was drooling in the plant isle at Home Depot.

I had to have it; look at the rust tips on the velvety leaves.  It had my name written all over it.

Since the plants I bought on Saturday needed to be divided, that meant I needed more containers.  I found a couple of discarded light sconces on my workbench in the garage.  I thought; “why not”…if it can hold dirt then it will do the job.

I added a tea cup and saucer on the other side to complete this little menagerie of potted succulents.   I can’t wait to find some more containers to plants these fun little plants in.

Here were are few more inspiration pics I found on Pinterest…

Now that Spring is in full swing here in Texas, that means more trips to flea markets and garage sales.

That means I’ll probably find some really awesome containers to plant in. This should be fun!

So what is the craziest container you’ve ever planted in?

Do tell!
