My Workspace Unplugged

i’m not proud
but it has to be told
the story of my inability…

to work in a clean zone

I moved my whole studio/woman cave 🙂 from the front 12′ x 15′ dining room complete with an amazing natural light source, east northeastern windows…
to a tiny hole in my laundry room.
Really!

I now nest in a 6′ x 6′ space.  More like 6′ x 4′ because of overflow.
As you can see; I can’t blame my lack of organization on space.
It was just more spread out before.

What did I do with all of my stuff that filled the larger room?

Some of it moved to the garage, some I tossed to the curb and some I have sold.

but this little treasure chest…this is were all the broken dishes go now
tossed in a drawer.
I call it the bone yard!

This really doesn’t qualify as unorganized in my book…I think it’s lovely 🙂
One time I even did something with some of this treasure…

For the life of me I don’t know why I don’t make more mosaic designs, as I recall it was really fun.

***

Why did I do this?

Give up the digs…
Reduce my space…
plant myself in the smallest corner of my house?

Well it was simple…
my kids needed a place to entertain friends, watch movies,  play games, slob out and be in close proximity to the kitchen, because that’s what teenagers do.
We have a modest home with one living area and three bedrooms clustered off of a small L shaped hall way.
Noise was always a factor with kids in the den. We don’t allow our kids to entertain girlfriends or boyfriends in their rooms.  So…I sacrificed my “huge” room for the dungeon for the time being.
I know it won’t be long and they will be gone… *sniff*

(notice the photo in aqua frame? that was 15yrs ago; time goes by so quickly)

I’m okay with it for now and you would think that a smaller space would force me to keep it clean…think again.

I try and organize, clear a space, purge more…
but you know it just makes me crazy.
I can’t find anything when I put it away.
I have a the opposite of OCD.

I’ll let you figure out a name for that.
Are ya wondering why I’m showing you my “clutter”?

I got wind of a new link party over at Just Drink a Coke!
She urged us to be …
vulnerable
real
and to show it off!

Well alrighty then…I’m disorganized and proud of it!

Thank you Miranda…I am free at last.

  1. You did a good thing, moving to a smaller place in the house. For your children. But I think your work place looks great. If I were to show you mine, you would fall backwards.:)

  2. Be proud of your reality! Creativity comes in all forms! My link at drink a coke was of my laundry room studio as well! The hum of the laundry in process can be very comforting, no?

    1. Yes the whirr of my FL washing machine and the hum of the dryer make it very cozy and I really do prefer to be tucked away in my own little world, however some days it is claustrophobic and I have dreams that I am being overtaken by the beads. I totally forgot to mention how my shapely hips knocked off two full boxes of beads off the desk and guess when beads hit tile floor? I’m sure I’ll find them all eventually. 🙂

  3. LOL…you’re human! =) I like clean, but I tend to make a mess when I sew! I guess it’s our creativity…we just get busy. =)

Love the pics of your kiddo’s then and now. =) They do grow so fast…ugh…time flies!

  4. I am cracking up reading your post. You are a creative gal, both with writing and design. Thanks for linking up to my Reality Collection because I wouldn’t have found your blog otherwise. I’m definitely following you now. Can’t wait to read what else you’ve got! Have a great day! I’m glad you’re free at last 🙂

  5. I love your space mess and all! I am a visual person and I am the same way with my creative process – I have to be able to see it when I am making something so all of my supplies end up strewn about. I only hope I can carve out my own little creative space in our home one of these days!

  6. I love this! And why not keep it real? I just have to have my “stuff” around me when I’m creating. I recently moved and honestly, I don’t even know where all my crafty things are at the moment. So much was done in a hurry and now it’s time to find my ‘stuff’! 🙂

I’m also in Texas and it’s always great to meet another fellow Texan. I’m in the DFW area. Your creations are beautiful! I’m a new follower and anxious to see even more.
Stop by and say hi when you can ~
